About

At her first major art exhibition in Calgary Alberta, July 2021, a fellow artist described Eve’s works as “spiritual abstraction”. Known for the ethereal quality of her paintings, her principle styles hover between impressionist and abstract. Mediums include acrylic, golden leaf, shell veneers, and texture on canvas or board.

Having attended a performing and visual arts high school, as well as Humber College’s vocal jazz program and a New York Film Academy acting program, Eve’s artistic interests are broad. But painting will always be a daily practice that is a deep and spiritual part of her, and an essential part of her existence.

My Process

A simple inspiration from feeling is always the catalyst to all of my creations, as painting is as much a feeling process as it is a creative process for me. Whether it be drawn from a personal experience, a feeling in any given moment or a dream, inspiration lies within all realms of life. After I catch a glimpse of this inspiration and very roughly draw it out, the creative process begins for the purpose of creating a realm all of my own.

My paintings contain layers and layers of varying mediums. I begin to lay down layers of sculptural modelling paste on board to add dimension and texture into different shapes, then layers of acrylic paint are added once the paste has dried. As I explore painting colours, shapes and figures, many times it feels as if the painting is revealing and creating itself.

To create extra illumination within the painting, I add layers and shapes with golden leaf at all of the points I wish to bring focus and lustre to. Then, with my affinity for creating scenes that give the impressions of water, I begin to lay down fragments of mother of pearl and abalone shell veneers to add depth and elements of magic within the water, and beings around the water. With white acrylic paint, I conclude the painting by incorporating light into it so that it can embody the light energy of spirit. This spiritual essence that I hope to execute is the beginning, middle and end of my artistic process.
